TXL, Spec 44 or Tefzel? Choosing Wire That Fits the Build
The best wire is not simply the most expensive one. Temperature, chemicals, connector seals, tooling and repairability all matter.

Insulation defines the environment
Conductor size determines current capacity, while insulation determines how the wire handles heat, abrasion, fluids and sustained pressure. Thin-wall cross-linked TXL is a strong choice for quality club-level work. Higher-spec constructions become valuable as temperature, packaging and weight requirements grow.
Match wire, terminal and seal
A smaller outside diameter is not automatically better. The wire must sit correctly inside the terminal crimp and the connector seal must grip its insulation. Mixing parts from incompatible size ranges can create a harness that looks finished but lacks strain relief or environmental sealing.
Tooling is part of the specification
Tough, thin insulation often needs the correct stripper and calibrated crimp tooling. If the available tools damage conductors or produce inconsistent crimps, a premium wire choice can reduce reliability instead of improving it. Material, connector system and tooling should be selected together.
